Why use a Golf Swing Analysis System

Options for Improving your swing

The concept of getting the ball from a tee to a hole in a green is simple. But as

we know it is easier said than done! The trick is to develop a grooved swing to

be able to place the ball where we want to consistently and predictably. These

are the hallmarks of a winning game and they are difficult to attain unaided.

There are several options available for golfers who love the game and want

more accuracy and distance:

· Lessons with a professional—the better ones use video!

· Books and Video instruction

· Gadgets and Gizmo swing trainers

· The Internet

Without video analysis can you be sure you are using the right tool and using it

correctly?

The solution is to capture your swing on video and analyse it with a computer

analysis tool. This provides the missing element: Interactive feedback. For the

first time you can tell the areas where you are making mistakes and get a detailed

understanding of how you swing the club, and will show if you are doing

what you think you are doing!

Why Video Analysis is effective?

Consistency and efficiency are critical to a golf swing. Whatever your body type,

age, or skill level, if you can improve either or both of these aspects your game

and consequently scores will also improve. You can spend hours hitting balls,

but if the swing is inefficient they are wasted hours.

If you can increase the efficiency of your swing, you can transfer more energy

to the ball with less effort. The result is longer, straighter drives and mid-irons.

The less effort used, the less tired you will be and therefore more consistent.

If you could predict your ball flight with accuracy, even without gaining more

distance , your handicap will tumble. In the technical areas of the game like

bunker play, shots from the rough, and putting consistency is the key to accuracy.

Swing analysis systems enable you to get control of your swing evolution by using

side-by-side comparison with your own swing and professionals swings.

Consistency, accuracy, and efficiency are all areas that are enhanced through

swing analysis.

The interactive nature of computers puts your swing directly into the theory described

in books and videos. For the first time we can compare theory with reality!

Without video feedback you are basically blind about your swing movement,

leaving only ball flight as the indicator of a successful strike. Without video

analysis you will never know which gadget or drill helped your game.

Why don't we all use them?

The vast majority of tour professionals use video analysis. They are nothing new

to the world of golf and the better teaches and coaches use them regularly.

The main concern was cost, but with the processing power of modern PC's the

demands of video processing can be handled easily. Today, swing analysis systems,

camcorders, computers, and software come in all shapes and sizes and

can suit any budget.

Using Swing analysis systems

Motion View software has been developed to provide you with all the tools you

need to control the evolution of your swing. Side-by-side comparison, slow motion,

drawing tools, to name but a few.

Because of the speed at which it occurs, the golf swing is largely automatic and

cannot be changed overnight. The only way to affect the swing motion is

through feel. The feeling of a swing is the residual impression that is left after

you have finished your swing. We can all feel when we hit a good strike, but this

feeling is unfortunately all too rare in a round of golf. We must therefore refine

our swing motion to achieve a good strike more often, and increase our feel.

Once you have an analysis system, start by comparing your swing side-by-side

with professional model swings. This will show where you most need to improve.

A key fact is to remember we are not all perfect athletes and the ideal

swing may not be possible due to flexibility and muscle constraints. The models,

however, are a good guide to efficient swing motions.

Swing development means the ability to compare your old swing with the new.

Consider how many times your swing changes over a month. When you have a

lesson, or are playing really well record your swing, and a month later, when

the old habits are creeping back and the ball flight is not as good record your

swing again, and compare them on the analysis system. This comparison will

give you a clear indication of where the problem lies.

Cost against benefits

The cost of Motion view is more or less the same as a round of golf. This is

nothing compared with the elation of winning a tournament or just the Sunday

four ball. It comes down to enjoyment of the game brought about by a reducing

handicap and better ball striking.
